This medical term glossary provides explanations in plain English of a number of technical terms you may encounter in the process of pursuing a clinical negligence claim.
Nares - Nostrils.
Nasal - Of or relating to the nose.
Necrosis - Death of tissue or bone. Can be caused by an infarction.
Nephrectomy - Surgery to remove a kidney.
Nephritis - Inflammation of kidneys.
Nephrotomy - Operation on the kidney.
Neurasthenia - Nervous disability which may follow a head injury.
Neurectomy - Nerve removal.
Neuro- - Of or relating to nerves.
Neurocranium - Brain cavity in the skull.
Neuroma - Tumour found in nerve sheath which may cause sensory disturbance.
Neuropathy - Disorder of nerves used for senses, causing loss of sensation.
Neuropraxia - Impaired nerve function.
Neuroretinitis - Inflammation of optic nerve and retina.
Neurosis - An abnormal emotional state signifying a pathological condition.
Node - Bundle of tissue.
Nutation - Nodding the head.
Nystagmus - Uncontrollable circular movement of the eyes.
