Cyclist sentenced to 18 months over death of pedestrian in fixie bike case

The introduction of specific legislation to cover death or serious injury by dangerous cycling will be welcomed by many, including those who have campaigned for many years to update UK law.

Whilst these serious incidents remain at a relatively low level, when compared to motor accidents, they nonetheless have a profound impact on their victims and families. This change should help achieve equal accountability for those who recklessly and carelessly ride their bikes.

However, there are still concerns that anyone killed or seriously injured on our roads by a cyclist has no clear route to compensation without introducing a requirement for road cyclists to have insurance. Without that, many people injured by a cyclist will struggle to achieve any financial redress for what can be fatal or life-changing injuries.

If you believe you may be eligible for compensation following an accident or injury, we encourage you to get in touch with our dedicated team of personal injury solicitors. Call us on 0161 696 6235 or fill out our online enquiry form.
