At Stephensons, we are always proud to welcome enthusiastic students for work experience placements. Recently, two students joined us from Westhoughton High School for a short but insightful time within our clinical negligence team, along with the opportunity to observe other departments. These placements aim to give young people a taste of life in a busy law firm, taking them beyond the textbooks and into the everyday realities of a legal career.
One student reflected on the warmth and support they received from our teams, especially in clinical negligence and probate. They appreciated being invited to observe meetings and even meet clients, describing their time with us as both memorable and enriching. They also noted how the experience helped them build confidence and develop their initiative, skills they will take back with them into school and into future challenges.
Another student spoke about the value of exploring various legal sectors during their placement. They highlighted the talented staff, the welcoming atmosphere and how the experience strengthened their ambition to pursue a legal career. For them, the placement helped change their outlook on teamwork and personal responsibility, inspiring them to stay focused on their goals.
One student shared:
“Stephensons has really fuelled my ambition more to become a solicitor in the future and given the drive to achieve my goals.”
Another reflected:
“Stephensons have really helped me to grow my confidence and to use my personal initiative when dealing with tasks.”
These reflections are a reminder of the power of hands-on learning. Work experience placements offer students a unique opportunity to step into the professional world, ask questions, develop practical skills and gain clarity on their future ambitions. At Stephensons, we are proud to support the next generation of legal professionals and hope that experiences like these continue to build confidence, curiosity and a lasting interest in the law.
