Our clinical negligence solicitors were able to obtain a settlement of £17,000 for a client who suffered
negligence from a dentist.
Our client had a denture for over 30 years and decided to have two implants fitted to retain the denture. After consultation a treatment plan was formulated which included the provision of a conventional upper denture and two implants in the lower jaw. The cost of this restorative treatment was £3,500.
After visiting the defendant on twelve occasions for the construction of the dentures and minor adjustments the dental implants were placed under local anaesthesia and intravenous sedation.
Following the treatment our client suffered from pain and was unable to wear the lower denture over the implant placement surgical wounds. After a course of antibiotics did not resolve the problem our client was referred on to a second dentist. Our client was provided with a partial refund of £1,250, the second dentist recommended a new denture and agreed to provide this for the amount refunded.
Our client went on to see the new dentist on a further 20 occasions whilst still suffering pain and problems with their lower arch from the initial procedure. Following examination it appeared that not only were the implants incorrectly positioned in the first instance, there should also have been four implants rather than the two used to ensure the stability of the lower denture.
