Woman burned as cocktail explodes

  • Posted

What started off as a typical night out, turned out to be a night she would never forget for a woman enjoying a night out at Lola’s Cocktail Bar in Manchester earlier this month.

A bartender on the said night was making the well-known ‘flaming sambuca’ shot, which is made by pouring the spirit into a glass with coffee beans, before setting it alight. The fire is then extinguished before drinking the shot. On this occasion, the shot erupted, setting fire to the victim's face and hair, as she drank the shot.

As a result, the victim suffered significant facial burns and was treated at Wythenshawe Hospital following the accident.

A spokesman for Lola's Cocktail Lounge said: "Following the recent event in our venue resulting in injury to one of our customers, we sincerely offer our sympathies for her injuries sustained. We have been trading for many years and have never had another incident such as this. We have revisited our health and safety procedures once again to prevent this type of freak accident from happening again."
