Intellectual Property Office warns of patent and trade mark scam

  • Posted

The Intellectual Property Office (IPO) has issued a warning to UK patent and trade mark owners of a renewal scam.

A Latvian company using the IPO’s own trading name is said to be issuing “reminder” letters to IPO clients asking for money for renewing their patents and trade marks.

IPO asks all patent and trade mark owners to remain vigilant and has issued a public statement to say that no misrepresentation to its customers will be tolerated. The IPO will continue to work closely with enforcement partners until those responsible are stopped.

The IPO has sent a warning to all patent and trade mark owners who are due to renew their patents and trade marks in the coming months.
