Sarah Masters

Clinical Negligence Solicitor and Senior Associate Solicitor

Biography

Sarah is a senior associate solicitor in our clinical negligence department. She is highly experienced in civil litigation.

Sarah commenced her career at Stephensons in 2010. She joined the clinical negligence department shortly after as a graduate paralegal. She assisted on a wide range of complex medical negligence cases with injuries such as cerebral palsy, amputations, cosmetic surgery, birth injuries, still births, misdiagnosis, dental injuries and brain injuries.

Sarah commenced a training contract in 2016 and qualified as a solicitor in our personal injury department in 2018. Sarah spent many years building up a complex and varied case load of industrial disease and illness claims. She also specialised in employer’s liability, public liability, occupier’s liability, complex CICA claims, Animals Act claims and historical sexual abuse claims.

Sarah was made an associate in 2021 and a senior associate in 2022.

Sarah has now returned to the clinical negligence department where she has a varied caseload dealing with a claims including delay in diagnosis, surgical errors, orthopaedics and gynaecology.

Sarah is approachable, understanding and enjoys helping to guide clients through the claims process in a clear and simple manner.

In addition to her role as a solicitor, Sarah is on Stephensons’ corporate social responsibility committee and staff engagement committee.

Cases of interest

Assisted on:

A very tragic case involving a fatal road traffic accident collision, resulting from ice on the road due to poor drainage systems. The 25 year old victim left behind his 24 year old wife and newborn baby. The case was very complicated in terms of liability but Sarah assisted in securing a settlement in excess of £500,000 for the bereaved family.

A delay in diagnosis claim which settled for £2.4 million which was life changing for the client to help them access the treatment, rehabilitation and home adaptations they required.

Sarah’s cases:

A surgical error case which settled for £92,000 for a client who had her bone cut incorrectly during podiatric surgery which resulted in a reduced range of movement and impacted her daily.

A Turner & Newall Asbestos Trust case for mesothelioma which proved fatal. The Turner & Newall Asbestos Trust claims scheme only allows those claiming to receive a dividend payment and not the full value of the claim due to the limitations of the scheme with the Trust. Sarah advised and assisted the bereaved family in obtaining over £93,000 from the Trust scheme. Find out more
