Lee Simpson

Lee joined Stephensons Solicitors, having spent 8 years in the legal costs industry as an in-house Costs Drafter and latterly representing a wide range of Solicitors across the country from sole practitioners to large city firms, primarily focussing on high value litigation. 

Lee was appointed as an Associate in May 2024 and subsequently a Team Leader in November 2024, managing a fast-growing team of experienced Costs Drafters who provide a wide range of technical costs expertise to external clients to the firm. Lee prides himself on being professional, approachable with a key focus on client care and achieving the best possible results on every case.

Lee handles the day-to-day running of the commercial costings team, to include providing technical costs support and assisting in the needs of the team. With a caseload of both adverse and recovery costs matters, he provides costing services to a wide range of external clients from private individuals, Solicitors firms and businesses to Government departments and public bodies, handling diverse legal costs matters from fixed costs to claims for costs arising from high value personal injury and breach of tort, housing disrepair, Judicial Review, Court of Appeal and Supreme Court proceedings, to name a few. Lee has been involved in assisting clients in reducing claims for costs worth hundreds of thousands of pounds and specialises in:

1. Drafting Bills of Costs for detailed assessment, Supreme Court Form 5
2. Drafting Points of Dispute and Replies to Points of Dispute
3. Between the parties costs recovery
4. Costs negotiation 
5. Advocacy

Experience

Lee has over 15 years’ practising costs law, during which time he has handled millions of pounds worth of costs claims, both recovery and adverse, to include a number of costs claims arising from high profile and widely publicised cases.

Skills & strengths 

High attention to detail and technical ability in a diverse range of costs matters, both in respect of recovery of costs and adverse costs matter. A key focus on high client care and understanding of client needs and commercial awareness and achieving the best possible result on each matter.

Outside of work Lee is a keen wildlife photographer, which has taken him around the world and the opportunity to meet some wonderful like-minded people. He enjoys travelling, music concerts and going to the theatre and outdoor activities to include walking/hiking to spending time with friends and family.
