The 2020 edition of The Legal 500 has awarded Stephensons top tier status for a fifth consecutive year and once again recognises the firm’s breadth and depth of legal services.
The Legal 500 is the definitive guide to the legal profession and each year its researchers undertake stringent research into the industry. The independent guide recommends law firms for their expertise by ranking them in tiers and also highlights any outstanding legal professionals.
In total, the guide awarded rankings to seven practice areas. Commendations were given to Stephensons’ crime, fraud, clinical negligence, personal injury, family, and social housing teams with further recognition for local government law and professional discipline.
Among numerous departments which were ranked this year, The Legal 500 reserved particular praise for Stephensons’ crime and fraud work, both of which received the coveted ‘tier 1’ ranking for the fifth consecutive year.
Elsewhere in the firm, since the appointment of Victoria Gethin as head of the department, the family team has gone from ‘tier 3’ to ‘tier 2’ status and the firm’s personal injury department also increased its ranking from ‘tier 4’ to ‘tier 3’.
The firm’s clinical negligence team held on to its ‘tier 2’ status and the firm also ranked for social housing (tier 3), local government (tier 3) and professional discipline (tier 4).
Andrew Welch, managing partner at Stephensons said: “The Legal 500 is a useful barometer of success in legal services and the 2020 guide has shown that our offering across the firm continues to be among the very best in the United Kingdom.
“To be recognised across seven departments and have many of our solicitors recommended in this year’s guide, is a huge achievement and demonstrates the quality of work being performed across every department.”
