Stephensons, the national law firm, has celebrated a successful year of fundraising by presenting Wigan and Leigh Hospice with a cheque for more than £3,000.
Maxine Armstrong from the hospice - which was chosen as charity of the year by Stephensons staff in 2016 - was on hand to receive the donation of £3876.66 from Stephensons’ Chairwoman, Ann Harrison, and meet with some of the fundraisers.
The charity, based in Hindley, provides skilled care, help and support for more than 1,000 people living with a life-limiting illness across the Wigan Borough. Wigan and Leigh Hospice also provides assistance to the families and carers of patients.
Many patients will – where possible – be cared for in their own homes, in nursing or care homes or at the charity’s specialist short-stay unit.
Stephensons held several fundraisers over the past twelve months, with generous staff pledging donations for everything from dress-down days, to bake sales and numerous marathons, half-marathons and 10k runs.
Maxine, who received the donation on behalf of the charity, said: “I would like to thanks all the Stephensons staff who have contributed to this generous donation. The firm have been long-term supporters of the hospice and we were delighted to work so closely with them as their ‘charity of the year’.
“Wigan and Leigh Hospice is reliant on the generosity of businesses and the general public to help fund the many services we provide and we are always grateful to receive such a significant amount.
“We are currently fundraising as part of our Counting on Care appeal to modernise our Inpatient Unit. This donation will help to create a more comfortable and therapeutic environment for all of our patients and visitors.”
Stephensons’ Chairwoman, Ann Harrison, said: “This is the second time Stephensons have supported the hospice as its charity of the year, having also nominated them in 2009. Our staff regularly take part in fundraising to support them – whether individually or on behalf of the firm – and it is a cause that is close to many across the firm, especially those whose relatives or friends have benefited from the incredible service they provide.
“We are thrilled to be able to present Wigan and Leigh Hospice with this donation and hope it will be of great use to them in their invaluable work.”
