D

Decree Absolute           
A final Court Order dissolving a marriage which enables the parties to re-marry.
 
Decree Nisi      
A provisional Court order confirming that the Petitioner has established that the marriage has irretrievably broken down. This order does not end the marriage.
 
Dependant        
A person who depends on another person for support, e.g. for financial support. 
 
Directions         
Instructions given by a judge as to what steps should be taken in a case.
 
Disclosure        
Parties in financial proceedings must disclose (show to the other party) any documents they intend to rely on to support their case.
 
Divorce 
The legal end of a marriage.
 
Divorce Petition
An application to Court for the legal ending of a marriage.
