Philip started his legal career working within a commercial healthcare advisory team, during which time he developed a specialism in the law regarding deprivations of liberty.

Philip has also gained experience in Court of Protection health and welfare proceedings, inquests, and in supporting witnesses called to give evidence at criminal trials. Philip now specialises in applications to the Court of Protection regarding deprivations of liberty, regularly acting on behalf of ‘P’ by his/her litigation friend (including independent mental capacity advocates, family members and the Official Solicitor); he also undertakes work in cases involving medical treatment, and in disputes regarding capacity evidence.

Philip is also experienced in delivering training to advocacy services on all aspects of mental capacity law, and writes articles on the developing case law of the Court of Protection and how this affects those that work in the area.

Outside of the office, Philip winds down with books and films, has an amateur interest in numismatics, and enjoys wild swimming.
