This package of support will be greeted with a collective sigh of relief from many business owners. It offers some respite from the relentless list of challenges they have had to contend with over the past two years.

Spiralling energy costs have already seen some businesses close their doors permanently and unfortunately this intervention may not be enough to keep every business afloat, particularly when that initial six month freeze ends. Many are already experiencing a catastrophic shortfall in their finances and with a recession looming, it looks likely that the worst may be still to come.

While it is likely that these measures will be reviewed regularly, it is crucial that the government works closely with businesses of all shapes and sizes and doesn’t hesitate in taking appropriate action to help them balance the books and keep their business viable
