Solicitor becomes specialist in inheritance disputes

A Leigh solicitor who advises people with inheritance disputes has qualified as an associate member of the Association of Contentious Trusts and Probate Specialists (ACTAPS).

Heather Korwin-Szymanowska has completed the two-year accreditation at the College of Law in Chester, and is now among an elite group of solicitors in the country to hold this official recognition.

Heather advises members of the public in making and defending legal disputes over Wills, estates, trusts and Court of Protection issues. As a member of ACTAPS she must follow a set code of conduct in dealing with clients.

She said: “I am delighted to have been accepted as an associate member of ACTAPS. This is an area of law I’m very passionate about, and being a part of this organisation means my clients will have further reassurance that they are being given the best possible service.”

The objectives of ACTAPS are to provide a forum for specialists to exchange experience, know-how and an appreciation of the law in this specialist area. It also promotes the enhancement of the specific skills and expertise in this area by the provision of education and training and, where possible, enables representations to be made to the appropriate governmental and judicial bodies in relation to contentious trust and probate issues.

Liam Waine, a Partner at Stephensons, said: ”Stephensons is one of a few firms across the country to have a specialist inheritance dispute team to deal with these types of claims. Well done to Heather. Her qualification will further enhance our ability to serve clients in this area of law.”
