Stephensons helps to educate pupils in road safety

Leading law firm, Stephensons Solicitors LLP, is taking part in this years’ Road Safety Week in order to teach young pupils the importance of concentrating when crossing the road.

Throughout next week, Stephensons will be visiting Worsley Mesnes Community Primary School in Wigan and Hazlehurst Community Primary School in Bury in a bid to promote BRAKE’s National Road Safety Week. This years’ message, ‘Tune In’, will highlight the significance of avoiding distractions when using the roads.

Stephensons will be delivering an interactive BRAKE presentation that will remind the children of how to cross the road safely and to be aware of other road users. In addition to the serious issue of road safety, Stephensons is also running a poster competition in which the pupils’ task will be to design a road safety poster that conveys the message of Road Safety Week 2013. The top three posters, from each school, will receive a prize.

The workshops will be led by Shahina Sakeria, a solicitor at Stephensons, who acts for people who have been injured in road traffic accidents.

Shahina said: “We support BRAKE and the work the charity does to make our roads a safer place to be. Road deaths and injuries are a year-round problem, but Road Safety Week gives us a perfect opportunity to focus on the issue and help to educate young people on the dangers around them.

Between June 2012 and June 2013, 23,530 people were either killed or seriously injured as a result of a road traffic accident.
