Advice will Future Proof Landlords' Interests

Law firm Stephensons Solicitors LLP is launching the first in a series of free bite-size seminars for North West business people.

The firm is rolling out the early evening seminars to provide business owners and managers from across the region with practical answers to specific issues. The first, at Bolton Arena on October 14th, will focus on commercial property, and will give advice to landlords on how to best protect their interests as the current economic climate remains uncertain. Future seminars are also planned to focus on taking steps to ensure invoices are turned into cash and taking advantage of purchasing from insolvencies.

Richard Dawson-Gerrard, a partner with Stephensons, said: “These seminars will give local business people strategic advice and direction at a time when they need it most. The first is open to all those commercial property landlords who want to make sure their rental income is safe as the economy remains unpredictable.

“I would urge anyone with a financial interest in commercial property to attend. Now is the time for landlords to take quick and decisive action, because putting plans in place now will future proof their business against a backdrop of uncertainty and troubled times.”

Speaking at the first seminar will be Kate Bullen, an associate solicitor specialising in commercial property at Stephensons. She will discuss initial landlord and tenant issues, including how to vet a tenant, how to obtain personal guarantees, and how to ensure leases are well drafted. Kate will also provide advice on rent reviews, how to manage tenants, as well as insurance considerations.

Louise Hebborn, an associate solicitor with considerable experience in solving property disputes, acts for developers, portfolio managers, investors, landlords and tenants in many disputes concerning land and landlord and tenant cases involving business premises and commercial investments. She will share her experience and provide advice on how to handle disputes should they arise, from dealing with rent arrears to removing tenants.

The seminar will be held at Bolton Arena, from 4pm until 6pm on October 14th 2008 and refreshments will be provided. Those wishing to attend the free event must register their interest with Claire Mills, by emailing cmi@stephensons.co.uk or by phone on 01942 774278.
