Osman Munir

Osman joined Stephensons in April 2017 as a solicitor advocate in the criminal justice department based in St Helens.

Osman's areas of specialism include:

  • General and serious crime
  • Motoring offences
  • Violence/sex offences
  • Fraud

Osman is criminal law specialist and has been qualified as a solicitor for over six years, during that time he has practised solely in criminal law. Prior to qualification, Osman worked as a graduate paralegal at two of the largest criminal defence firms in Manchester, preparing cases for trial in the youth, magistrates and crown courts.

In his role as a solicitor advocate at Stephensons, Osman provides legal advice, assistance and representation at police stations, youth, magistrates and crown courts, on a daily basis. In addition, he is recognised by the legal aid agency as a supervisor of those who undertake criminal legal aid work.

Osman is an effective advocate, with strong communication skills and a sound understanding of criminal law, and the criminal procedure rule. He is able to make well thought out decisions under pressure and to tight deadlines, and these decisions can have a significant effect upon the outcome of a case.

In the magistrates and youth court, Osman is an experienced and very competent trial advocate. He has a high success rate in defending trials involving complex issues, such as abuse of process applications, s.8 disclosure applications, as well as contested hearsay, bad character and special measures applications. He has represented clients charged with a wide range of offences from assaults, motoring & dishonesty/ fraud offences.

Osman frequently represents youths charged with grave crimes, including serious assault and sex offences, with positive outcomes. One of the most recent examplse being a 14 year old he represented who was charged with causing death by dangerous driving following a collision on an off road motorbike which resulted in a fatality. Successful negotiations led to the offence being downgraded to causing death whilst uninsured, for which the client received a referral order.

In the Crown Court, Osman has provided legal representation in appeals from the lower courts, judge in chamber's bail applications, plea & trial preparation hearings, trials and sentence hearings. Again, many of the trials that he has been involved in at the Crown Court have had successful outcomes.

As a litigator, Osman is a highly organised individual who is meticulous in case analysis, preparation and presentation, leaving no stone unturned. He also has a great eye for detail. As such he has been involved in complex, paper heavy, very high cost cases over the years. These include, a double handed gang murder involving nine defendants, a complex fraud involving the import and export of goods in and out of Felixstowe and a multi handed people trafficking case which received a significant amount of media coverage on the television series Panorama.

Osman's skills and experience as a solicitor, coupled with his energy and enthusiasm have achieved exceptional results for his clients.
