Megan Shaw
Biography
Megan is a solicitor in the Court of Protection department.
Megan graduated in 2012 from Keele University with a degree in psychology and criminology. She completed her Graduate Diploma in Law in 2016 and her LPC in 2018, gaining distinctions in both.
Megan commenced her legal career working as a paralegal for a local authority legal team in May 2013, before moving to a law firm as a paralegal in May 2017 in their Court of Protection team, before commencing her training contract. Megan qualified as a solicitor in January 2020. Megan joined the team at Stephensons in March 2025. Megan has been certified as an accredited legal representative in mental capacity (welfare) since August 2023.
Megan specialises in health and welfare matters under the Mental Capacity Act 2005, and is very experienced in representing and advising advocates and family members in respect of s.21A challenges and disputes as to capacity and best interests. She has successfully challenged care home placements ensuring that P can return to their own home and identifying less restrictive options which have been more suitable for her clients. Megan has also recently been involved in representing P on several cases where there have been disputes between the appointed attorney or deputy for health and welfare and the local authority, in addition to considering hospital discharges. Megan particularly enjoys meeting and developing relationships with her clients and supporting them to ensure their voices are heard and best interests met.
Outside of work, Megan enjoys travelling, cross stitching, and spending time with her friends and family.
