Gillian was appointed an associate in 2011. She joined Stephensons in 2004 and qualified as a solicitor in 2006 after completing her law degree and postgraduate diploma in law at the University of Sheffield.
Since qualification, Gillian has specialised solely in the law relating to children, particularly within public law proceedings. She acts on behalf of parents, local authorities, children and other interested parties within care proceedings and other matters involving Children and Young People’s Services, such as grandparents or foster carers.
Where a family has attracted the attention of social services, she is able to offer advice, support and guidance throughout the process.
Gillian also helps family members who find themselves in disputes about where a child should live or how much time a child should spend with each parent or extended family member.Gillian is able to advise, assist and represent parties in relation to special guardianship orders and other private law orders. There has recently been a change in the availability of public funding (legal aid) to assist people in these areas of law and Stephensons are able to offer a range of fixed fees where appropriate to ease the burden of costs.
Gillian is a member of the Law Society’s Children Panel Accreditation Scheme (Children and Adult Representative). She is also a member of Resolution and the Association of Lawyers for Children.
Based at our St Helens office, Gillian is an approachable solicitor with a down to earth attitude and local knowledge. She has a particular interest in representing young parents and those with additional needs.
