Derian House Children’s Hospice has been chosen as ‘Charity of the Year’ by staff at the national law firm, Stephensons.
The initiative will see staff from across the firm’s offices taking part in year-long fundraising and volunteering activities in support of the hospice, which is based in Chorley, Lancashire. In previous years, the firm has raised tens-of-thousands of pounds to help charities and good causes on a local and national level.
As well as providing much needed funds, Stephensons legal teams also assist the firm’s charity of the year with seminars and advice clinics. The firm has offices across the North West, including Wigan, Manchester, Leigh, Middlebrook, St Helens and Warrington.
Derian House provides specialist palliative, respite and end of life care to children and young people with life shortening conditions and helps to support their families. The hospice has a catchment area which covers the whole of Lancashire and the South Lakes and is currently providing specialist care services to more than 300 families and bereavement support for a further 200 families.
Far from being a place of sorrow, Derian House – which celebrates its 25 anniversary this year - aims to create a happy, lively and vibrant environment which ensures quality of life is enhanced for the children and young people in its care.

“Derian House receives minimal statutory funding and we are reliant on the support of our partners and the wider community to raise the awareness and funds necessary to meet the needs of children and families throughout Lancashire and Cumbria.”
