Award Win for St Helens Law Firm

Stephensons Solicitors LLP is celebrating after securing Gold at the 2009 Keep Britain Tidy Business Awards, held at St Helens World of Glass last week.
 
The law firm, which has an office on Corporation Street, was one of just six St Helens businesses to win Gold for its commitment to achieving excellent standards in environmental practices.  

Cllr Carole Kavanagh, St Helens Council’s Executive Member for Environmental Protection, presented the awards at a ceremony at the World of Glass.

Cllr Kavanagh said: “All the winners have demonstrated their commitment to improving environmental quality through their initiatives in good waste management, recycling, waste minimisation and support for the local community. The scheme aims to recognise businesses that demonstrate good practice in storage, containment and disposal of waste. Environmental initiatives can save businesses a lot of money while enhancing their reputation among customers.”

The firm also has a Corporate Social Responsibility group which meets regularly to progress environmental activities.
 
Karen Atkins, a partner at Stephensons, said: “As a large and responsible local employer, we know we must play our part in reducing our carbon footprint and this award demonstrates that we are actively pursuing and achieving a more environmental approach to business. We are delighted to have secured ‘Gold’ at our very first attempt and hope to maintain it for many years to come.”
 
Stephensons is following the UK Small Business Consortium’s ‘Better Business Journey’. This model encourages businesses to become more environmentally aware by focussing on people, premises, promotion and purchasing.
