Stephensons is delighted to have been shortlisted in the Marketing Campaign of the Year category for the 2015 Modern Law Awards.
The Modern Law Awards set out to recognise and celebrate talent and entrepreneurship in the legal sector. Stephensons' place on the shortlist is in recognition of the firm's high profile asbestos awareness campaign.
The campaign highlighted the seven million English school children at risk of exposure to asbestos in their school buildings.
Stephensons' independent research revealed that 7,130,617 English school children are estimated to study in premises which harbour the deadly fibre, with around 86 per cent of all schools containing asbestos. Currently, there is no requirement for a school to notify parents when asbestos is found in their buildings.
Asbestos exposure also causes asbestosis, an inflammatory condition affecting the lungs, which can cause shortness of breath, coughing, permanent lung damage and several other illnesses. The effective management of asbestos in schools is essential as children are particularly vulnerable to developing mesothelioma after being exposed.
