Main purpose of the job:

Working within a busy finance team the assistant accountant will undertake a key role in the production of accurate and timely information for the practice, auditors and external stakeholders. The assistant accountant will be responsible for maintaining accurate records, undertaking key reconciliations and producing reports. They will be interested in numbers, excel and accounting practices and have the desire to study towards a formal accountancy qualification.

Main key result areas

  • Monitor cashflow balances by updating the cashflow forecast on a daily basis and reporting it to the financial accountant, finance director and managing partners
  • Update the fixed asset register on a monthly basis and calculate and post depreciation charges
  • Maintain accurate accrual and prepayment schedules to be posted every month
  • Maintain an accurate schedule of all debts over six months old covered by the bad debt provision
  • Calculate and post the monthly payroll accrual
  • Co-ordinate with the finance and accounts team to produce a reconciliation file monthly for review by the finance director
  • Produce the quarterly VAT return for review and payment
  • Co-ordinate the production and feedback on the review of WIP and provisions by each worktype
  • Produce quarterly board reports for the worktype heads
  • Analyse nominal accounts on request, checking for accuracy and correcting any mispostings
  • Collate information for all firm wide surveys and returns
  • Collate information for the renewal of the professional indemnity insurance and practicing certificate
  • To support the financial accountant(s) in all aspects of finance
