Main purpose of the job:
You will be working in a large and fast paced department serving a nationwide client base consisting of commercial clients and private individuals. You will be dealing with a range of regulatory cases across a wide spectrum of areas of regulatory law, including:
- CQC and Ofsted;
- Data protection;
- Financial services;
- Health & safety;
- Licensing;
- Professional discipline;
- Road traffic; and
- Transport
You will work under the supervision of solicitors and partners within the department to generate new clients and assist in the preparation of cases. Your role will be office based but will also involve attending outside meetings and appointments to include: accompanying clients to conferences with counsel; attending court and regulatory hearings to assist advocates; and attending to clients during prison visits.

Main key result areas
- Dealing with telephone, email and internet based enquiries from potential clients with the aim of converting to privately paid client status where appropriate;
- Under the supervision of solicitors and partners you will be dealing with all aspects of cases following conversion stage up to conclusion, including:
- Taking initial instructions either face to face at our offices or client premises or by telephone;
- Taking and drafting client and witness statements;
- Drafting written representations to regulatory bodies at various stages of proceedings or regulatory actions;
- Communicating generally (both written and orally) with clients, regulators, courts professional tribunals, witnesses and experts when dealing with general case progression;
- Advising clients regarding prospects of successfully challenging regulatory action;
- Advising clients in relation to mitigation in preparation for court or regulatory hearing;
- Liaising with and drafting instructions to experts;
- Drafting detailed briefs to counsel ahead of conference with counsel or court and regulatory hearings;
- Attending conferences with counsel, regulatory hearings and
- Advising client of the outcome of any hearings or other decisions and providing advice regarding any options moving forward.
- Working with solicitors and partners to continue to develop the regulatory practice by assisting with generating new and maintaining existing work streams;
- Providing regular contributions to the firm's website and regularly writing blogs for publication; and
- Carrying out general administrative duties as appropriate.
