Legal Costs Admin Assistant

Main purpose of the job:

Assisting the costing department in producing various bills which will service the entire firm by allowing departments to conclude their files by having those bills submitted to the relevant bodies for payment.

Responsible to:

Department Manager

Main key result areas

  • Provides support to departments in preparing claims for payment to the Legal Aid Agency, private paying clients or other relevant bodies. Preparing, amongst other things, cost schedules for negotiation, solicitor client bills/gross sum bills, schedules for summary assessment, schedules for allocation and listing questionnaires.
  • Ensure the firm gets paid the maximum amount possible on every file whilst complying with the relevant guidance/rules. This may include following the appropriate appeals process.
  • Ensure that payments are allocated to the correct file/matter when funds are received
  • Ensure that bills are submitted and have been received by the relevant authority, files are satisfactorily finished, disbursements paid and files closed
  • Provide general administrative support to the costing department

Minimum qualifications – 5 G.C.S.E’s or equivalent at grade C, including maths and english, (relevant work experience may be considered as alternative)
