Our housing law team has been ranked in Chambers UK 2014. Chambers UK ranks legal firms and lawyers in the UK each year following intensive research carried out by 100 researchers. This is a real positive for our growing team.

In Chambers UK, our social housing team is described as having a large standing in the North West of England and a real presence in the sector with comments that we will "fight tooth and nail for [our] clients".

The Housing team at Stephensons has really grown this year. We can help tenants in St Helens, Wigan, Leigh, Bolton, Manchester, Altrincham and the nearby surrounding areas. We have found that we can offer housing services to clients which many firms do not offer.

Recently there seems to have been a lot of misunderstanding regarding when Legal Aid is available with many seeming to believe that Legal Aid is simply no longer available for Housing cases. This is far from true. Legal Aid is still available to assist with possession cases, both for Local Authority and Housing Association tenants and those tenants in the private sector. We can still help with homelessness challenges under Legal Aid. In limited disrepair cases we can assist to get work done at tenant's properties and Legal Aid remains in scope for assistance in relation to Anti-Social Behaviour Injunctions (ASBIs) both in respect of defending applications against tenants for ASBIs and defending clients following alleged breaches of ASBIs. In addition, we also operate the Court Duty scheme at St Helens County Court for any tenants or mortgage borrowers who find themselves in need of assistance at Court.

With local and national respect growing for our social housing team we hope to keep on growing so that we can continue to fight tooth and nail for our clients even under this more challenging Legal Aid world which we find ourselves in.
