Gatso cameras

Gatso Cameras are rear facing static cameras found at the road side. They emit 2 flashes and calculate your speed over a measured distance and time.

Static cameras must be installed in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions and relevant highway safety legislation. There are also rules in relation to what constitutes an acceptable second independent method of checking the primary speed measurement. Where a method is utilised, which is not approved, the Prosecution should fail in proving the speeding allegation. Furthermore, where there is an alteration in the configuration of the site of the static camera, this may affect the viability of a prosecution. If cross examination exposed that such rules had not been adhered to any speed reading obtained may be excluded from evidence.

In such a scenario you would be found not guilty and acquitted. You would also be entitled to recover your reasonable costs in preparing your defence.
