Collaborative law

Frequently asked questions

How long does it take?
You are in control of the process so the pace will be set by you. Sometimes a couple of meetings results in a lasting settlement.

Is it for me?
Yes if you are looking to resolve matters amicably away from Court, with dignity.

What happens if the collaborative process breaks down?
The success rate is high but both you and your ex-partner will need to seek alternative legal advice as your collaborative lawyers will have signed an agreement to say that they will not represent you in Court proceedings.

What if my ex-partners solicitor is not collaboratively trained?
In these circumstances it is not possible to engage in the collaborative process, unless your ex-partner is prepared to change to a collaboratively trained lawyer

How does it differ from mediation?
Mediators can't give legal advice whereas with collaborative law you will receive high quality legal advice in the meetings and away from the meetings as required.
