Mis-sold PPI (payment protection insurance)

We can help if you have been paying for a policy which when you come to need it, it is in effect worthless. We can also help if you have found you have taken out a policy that you didn’t know about.

Stephensons are specialists in recovering the cost of mis-sold PPI (Payment Protection Insurance). Our solicitors have successfully recovered thousands of pounds in mis-sold PPI for clients. Many of these clients have found they are unable to make a claim on their PPI due to the unsuitable nature of the policy.

You may have taken out a policy to protect you or your asset against your inability to make repayments in unexpected circumstances. This insurance is typically taken out on mortgages, loans, credit cards, or car finance. You may even have found that a lender has added a PPI policy without you asking for it.

Most people believe that PPI will ensure that their loan repayment is paid by the insurer if they become ill, unemployed or unable to pay for another significant reason. So often this does not happen because the insurance is mis-sold. Claims on PPI policies are often rejected and not paid out. We are experts in looking at policies and challenging the premiums already paid by consumers if:

  • PPI was automatically added to a credit agreement
  • You were out of work or self employed at the time the policy was taken out
  • You were told that you could not receive credit unless you took the PPI out at the same time as the credit
  • PPI was sold in a pressurised way
  • You were not asked if you had other similar insurance
  • There was a lack of discussion around the payment of PPI (lump sum, monthly and possible refunds on PPI if the loan was paid off early)
These are just a few examples where we have the necessary expertise to challenge the cost of an insurance premium you may have paid.
