Occupational diseases

An occupational disease is an injury sustained during the course of an employment over a period of time, as opposed to on a particular day (accident at work). The injury is likely to be gradual and consequently may go unnoticed for several years.

Limitation will therefore commence from the date the symptoms became transparent and were associated with work. The tendency is now to interpret the latter criteria more strictly and explain why the association with work was not made at the time the symptoms were noticed.
