Binary 

 

Executable program or a data file

 

This is a licence for software either downloaded from a website or loaded from disk, where the licence terms are accepted on screen by following a "click to accept" procedure

 

Software which does not allow its code to be manipulated by end-users

 

A software licence which depends upon the number of people who use the software at any one time

DRM 

 

Digital Rights Management - a system designed to prevent illegal copying of music

EULA 

 

End User Licence Agreement - an agreement which restricts the use of a computer program by the end user

 

The person who uses a computer program

FOSS 

 

Free and Open Source software - software which is liberally licensed to grant the right of users to study, change, and improve its design through the availability of its source code

This is proprietary software made available free of charge

GNU 

 

General Public License (aka GPL) - it is a widely used free software license

 

A privelege to copy or use a program

 

This is a free software license originating at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)

 

This type of licence requires every individual who is going to use the software to be granted a licence

 

This is a fraudulent method which aims to acquire sensitive information, such as usernames, passwords and credit card details, by masquerading as a trustworthy entity in an electronic communication

 

This is computer software with restrictions on use or private modification, or with restrictions judged to be excessive on copying or publishing of modified or unmodified versions

 

Software which has a limited licence, generally with the aim of allowing a time-specific trial

 

This refers to a sequence of statements or declarations written in some human-readable computer programming language

Warez 

 

Software or protected electronic copyrighted material which has been illegally "hacked" and unlocked by software pirates
