Kate Sweeney

Head of the Personal Injury Department

Kate qualified as a solicitor in 1996, after completing her training contract at Stephensons. She qualified into clinical negligence, an area she had developed a keen interest in during her final year at Newcastle Polytechnic, whilst completing her law degree.

She then spent 10 years in clinical negligence, building up a niche caseload which included cerebral palsy cases, gynaecological cases, and fatal claims, involving large dependency claims. She headed up the department from 2002 to 2006, when she moved across to head up the large personal injury team here at Stephensons.

Kate’s team consists of 5 Solicitors and 8 claims handlers, plus a large amount of administrative staff, who deal with a wide range of personal injury claims.

Due to the size of the team, Kate spends a considerable amount of time on supervisory, regulatory and business development areas, but does retain a small, niche caseload of her own, focussing on higher value claims, including catastrophic claims, fatalities and complex CICA claims.

Kate is a Member of APIL and MASS and is recommended in the Legal 500.

She is passionate about ensuring access to justice for all Stephensons personal injury clients, and that they receive the best possible service whilst in the hands of her team.
