Four partners at North West law firm Stephensons Solicitors LLP have been selected as leaders in their field of law by a leading legal directory.
Chambers UK is an annual independent look at the leading legal professionals in the UK. It is produced by a team of researchers who interview clients and other professionals in the region to build a picture of the best firms in specific practice areas and their leading individuals.
In the North West section, published today, Stephensons’ Partners, Louise Griffiths, Andrew Welch, Mike Devlin and Mike Pemberton have been named as among the top professionals in their areas of practice.
Louise Griffiths is head of the clinical negligence department. The guide says: “Louise Griffiths heads the team and is a popular figure with clients due to her "straightforward and down-to-earth approach." She predominantly concentrates on high-value brain injury claims, but is well-versed in a range of clinical negligence matters, including orthopaedic issues, failures to diagnose cancer and mismanaged surgical procedures.”
Mike Devlin, managing partner of the family department is commended. “Michael Devlin heads the family practice and is considered to be "a leading authority" on legal aid and children law. He represents parents, children, local authorities and others on all manner of childcare-related cases.”
Mike Pemberton, head of the prisons, community care and public law teams, is praised. “Mike Pemberton is the lead solicitor for prison and public law matters and a broadly experienced criminal practitioner. Interviewees commend his commitment to the client's cause, saying that "he will go that extra mile."
Andrew Welch is managing partner of personal injury and clinical negligence departments. The guide says: “Open, upfront and amiable, Andrew Welch focuses on serious injury, fatalities and workplace accidents.”
In addition, the guide has ranked several of Stephensons’ departments, which covers the crime, civil liberties and prison law, personal injury, clinical negligence and family departments.
Ann Harrison, chairwoman of Stephensons, said: “What an excellent endorsement of the legal services provided by our firm. Chambers is a useful indicator to assess how independent sources view our provision of legal services. To have so many individuals highlighted as leaders, and many of our departments praised, is fantastic.”
