Staff at Wigan law firm Stephensons Solicitors LLP have extended a helping hand to a local woman’s refuge.
The firm has donated much needed essential items such as new toothbrushes/toothpaste, shower gel, shampoo, conditioner, moisturisers and make up to Arena Options Domestic Abuse Services, which provides shelter and protection for women and their children in the borough who are victims of domestic violence.The collection was co-ordinated by Stephensons’ Corporate Social Responsibility group, which meets on a regular basis to look at ways in which the firm can get more involved with the local community.
Melanie Varey, a trainee solicitor at Stephensons is part of the CSR group. She said: “The refuge is a safe haven for women and children who live under the threat of domestic violence, many of whom will turn up with little more than the clothes they’re wearing.
“We collected the items from Stephensons staff and also through a contact we had at L’Oreal, who provided some lovely treats which we have been able to pass on to the refuge. We hope they will make a difference.”
Cherry Williams, refuge manager, said: “We were delighted to receive such extravagant donations to pass onto our women. Frequently our families arrive with only the clothes on their backs. These generous gifts allow us to provide the women with some home comforts and a little luxury when they move into the refuge.
“The charitable actions of our local community make a huge difference to our women and we are extremely grateful for the continued support from all at Stephensons. We would also like to thank L’Oreal for their donations.”
