Stephensons Solicitors LLP is launching a quarterly Landlord’s Focus Group to provide the region’s growing number of property owners with free advice for every aspect of their business.
The law firm is hosting the inaugural Landlord’s Focus Group seminar at the Wigan Investment Centre on 21st February 2008, in conjunction with insurers, The Oval Group, and Mitchell Charlesworth accountants and business advisors.
Michelle Stevenson, an associate and solicitor at Stephensons, specialises in representing residential landlords in housing law, and will lead the seminar with a discussion on housing disrepair and possession proceedings.
Terence Reed and Greg Spiteri from The Oval Group will discuss risk management together with an associate from Royal & Sun Alliance, while Colin Corder from Mitchell Charlesworth will speak on VAT.
Michelle Stevenson says: “This focus group has been organised to meet the needs of landlords in providing comprehensive advice together with providing a forum for discussion and networking.
“Housing law can be a complex area and it’s essential that landlords have expert advice that’s both up-to-date and based on a wealth of experience. After all, at some point all landlords will need legal help, be it for drafting or updating a tenancy agreement or a more contentious issue such as evicting tenants.”
Colin Corder, Mitchell Charlesworth’s VAT manager, adds: “VAT issues facing landlords can be very complicated. Over the years the VAT treatment of property transactions and supplies between landlords and tenants has been increasingly affected by case law. Without expert advice or guidance, VAT can be a minefield for landlords to deal with.”
