Mobile phones and road traffic accidents

by Stephen Perry on

The recent purge on motorists who are using mobile phones while driving around Preston has underlined once again the dangers of taking calls whilst on the road. We all realise it’s an exceedingly dangerous activity, of course, but surprisingly it’s one that appears to be on the rise.

Police forces up and down the country are quick to point out that a number of serious accidents occur because of mobile phone use every week.

With many senior police forces promising further initiatives aimed at reducing the amount of mobile phone use, it’s to be hoped that this dangerous activity will start to diminish. However, if you or a family member has been the victim in such a case, you should speak to a legal specialist as soon as possible.

Road traffic accident compensation awards

In 2010, a motorcyclist was awarded over £800,000 in compensation for injuries sustained in a horrific road accident. Although a mobile phone wasn’t involved in this particular case, the award proves just how large payouts can be. They need to reflect the extent of the injuries, and to provide financial help towards the cost of medical care.
